While Dolby Atmos and Dolby TrueHD are two separate soundtrack formats, Atmos data on Ultra HD Blu-ray is actually an extension to TrueHD that is folded into the bitstream to maintain backwards compatibility. Here’s how that works: If you play a disc with an Atmos soundtrack, the Atmos extension data is decoded by an Atmos-compatible receiver. I have corrected my previous info. With more accurate tools, I determined the wideband pink noise signals are recorded at -20 dBFS, which would correspond to 85 dBC SPL.Deadwood II Theater (Previous Deadwood Theater HTOM)

Just popped on to say I've managed to get the Sept 2015 demo downloaded and gone so far as to buy a blu-ray burner and discs. I used imgburn to create the disc and it plays perfectly through my Ps3 to Sony str-dn1080. Well worth the hassle.

an interesting caveat being a standard PPM (peak program meter) will show that a -20 dBFS sine wave will have peaks -20...on the other hand -20 dBFS pink noise will have relatively constant peaks at approximately -10 dBFS. SAMSUNG QLED | ROTEL | MOREL | M&K | HAFLER | TECHNICS SP-25

On top of that, there's two references for 0 dBFS. One is the peak value of a sine wave, and the other is the RMS value of a sine wave. Programs like Audacity, Adobe Audition, and Room EQ Wizard, allow the user to select which reference they prefer. One scale is better for electrical measurement (the peak scale) while the other is better for acoustic measurements (the RMS scale). In each case, a well defined signal represents 0 dBFS.
In the world we inhabit around here wrt signals that translate to SPL, we ought to use the same (RMS) scale as the film industry, as they define reference SPL as 85 dB for -20 dBFS signals. If we were to use the alternative peak reference, 85 dB would occur with -23 dBFS signals. And there would be no optimal way to produce a 0 dBFS signal acoustically, as only a pure square wave would reach 0 dBFS. Speakers don't do square waves all that well, and neither do magnetic or optical analog film soundtracks, so sine waves are the reference.
Circling back to your post, when a -20 dBFS sine wave has peaks at -20 dBFS, that shows the meter and/or signal generator is in the peak reference mode.
Using the RMS reference, a -20 dBFS sine wave will have peaks at -17 dBFS as there's a 3 dB crest factor in sine waves, and a -20 dBFS pink noise (i.e. the SMPTE pink noise) will have peaks at -8 dBFS, as that noise has a 12 dB crest factor.

I have a Radio Shack clone SPL meter (analogue gauge) and a Denon 6200 in a 5.1.4 configuration using DAE speakers (ceiling bouncers). Set the SPL meter to C weighting and SLOW response. Hold the SPL meter pointing at the ceiling at ear level at the Main Listening Position.
Set the Master Volume on the AVR to 0dB.
Use the AVR's internal test tones, adjust the SPL of each speaker to 75dB.
After setting the SPL for all 9 speakers and Sub to 75dB, i verified the SPL's with the Spears & Munsil rev2 disc. Of course, it does not provide test tones for the Atmos speakers.
Then I used the 2015 Dolby Demo disc and measured that it's test tones were recorded 10dB higher than the Spears & Munsil disc.
Correct?

Yes (all) well said ! here is a refereence to the 9dB difference you mention abovehttp://www.bnoack.com/index.html?htt...estfactor.html
sine wave at 0dB
pink noise at 0dB

I have all the files individually off the atmos Disc. I have then on a USB drive and play them through the USB on my OPPO 203. They are pretty slick demo videos.
I guess I could create a Dropbox and share the files. I paid a dude $15.00 to do the same thing.
Won't be till Saturday late afternoon till I can due that though. Maybe shoot me a dollar or two PayPal to get that $15 back if you want to. Up to you guys.

Are places like eBay the only place to get ahold of demo discs? I'm new to these and have never tried to obtain one before.
If one downloads the disc as linked in an earlier post, can that be burned with any blu-ray burner?
